Finding the Perfect Jeans

Finding that Perfect Pair of Jeans

There are so many styles of jeans to choose from, skinny jeans, bootcut jeans, straight leg jeans, low-rise, mid-rise, just to name a few. With that many choices the most important thing to remember, before making your purchase, is you. Knowing your body type and which styles will flatter that body type is the best key to finding that “perfect pair”.

The Right Cut For You

Box figure, also know as straight or rectangle, lacks curves with little difference between the width of the shoulders, waist, and hips. Bootcut jeans, or flared styles, work well with this figure as they add shape. Pockets with flaps on the back round out the bottom, giving this figure a nice shape. Skinny jeans also show off more of the hips and thighs. Stay away from straight legged jeans as they will give no shape.

Pear figure is also known as triangle shaped because of the hips being wider than the shoulders with rounded bottom and thighs. Straight leg jeans in darker washes make the legs appear longer and slimmer. Bootcut jeans also work well with this figure. Stay away from skinny jeans and pockets with flaps or decorations on the back which will only draw unwanted attention to your backside.

Apple figure is when the width of the shoulders is broader than the hips, which is also known as an inverted triangle figure. Again, bootcut jeans are a great choice as are flared jeans, especially in lighter washes. Low-rise jeans can draw more attention to the hips which can really flatter this figure type. Stay away from skinny jeans and darker washes which will make the shoulders look wider.

Hourglass figures are often referred to as curvy because of the waist being narrower than the shoulders and hips, which are approximately the same width, giving a natural curve to this shape. That natural curve works well with a low-cut to show off those hips. Skinny jeans also show off this shape and because of this even proportion the shade of the wash depends more on the look that is trying to be achieved.

A straight cut won’t really take away from this shape but it won’t really help either, unless your petite.

Petite figures refer to height not size. For those 5’3 and under, a straight leg in a dark wash will defiantly add length. Stay away from flared, cuffed, or bootcut jeans or anything else that will draw the eye down to the feet.

Types Of Denim

There are two types of denim, stretch denim and 100% cotton denim. Stretch denim is more camouflaging, hiding more of the problem areas and accentuating more of your assets. You also want to wear a size smaller then you would normally wear to insure the best fit. However, stretch denim doesn’t last as long as 100% cotton denim and, as with any clothing with elasticity, you never want to toss them into the dryer. So the two difference are that 100% cotton denim is more durable but stretch denim gives a more effortless fit

In The Fitting Room

When shopping for that “perfect pair” remember that denim stretches and gives with your body. So try on a couple of the same style in the same size. If someone tried on a pair before you the denim might have stretched to her shape making that pair not fit you as well as they should. Also, live in them a little before you buy them. Remember, you have to be able to breath, so sit down, stand up, move around a bit to see how they will really fit. They should not just look great but they should feel great too!

The perfect pair of jeans actually do exist. The secret to finding them is in knowing what type will look perfect on you!

One Response to Finding the Perfect Jeans

For many, finding the perfect pair of jeans becomes a quest. Jeans are not all made the same, and since there are many styles to choose from, it can be difficult to find a pair that fit exactly the way you want them to. Popular styles include low rise, boot cut, skinny jeans, and flares. Choosing the right style usually means trying on a few before finding one that suits your body type. In addition to denim styles, there are also a variety of colors to choose from. While light colored blue jeans are usually worn during the day, darker denim is worn at nighttime. But many people wear dark denim during the day as well. Jeans are also available in different colors such as black, grey, and red.’
